SENIORS BASKETBALL We have a mixture of senior players who have been with us for many years & others who have recently joined. All improved in many different ways. Some have represented at the State or Regional Special Olympics with various achievements in the top 3 positions. With the assistance of our son Peter, we have introduced some new exciting drills which all enjoy so much such as “the chase is on”, “short range shoot out”, “bullet pass & layup” & “backboard rebound “with a record of 135 bounces. The athletes willingness to listen, learn and support one another is a testament to the spirit of the group.

JUNIOR BASKETBALL RSAC Junior Basketball has grown Steadily and healthily in the past year. It helps a lot of special needs participants to learn various skills through this activity. These skills include not only Basketball skill also Communication and Social skill. From this activity, participants have gained healthy development both physically and mentally. This is our original intention also the result that every parent wants to see. These achievements are attributed to our sincere coaches and caring volunteers.

TUESDAY BASKETBALL 6pm This program introduces a variety of drills aimed at improving skills, teamwork and engagement. There is plenty of game time which is very well received by both participants and volunteers.

FRIDAY BASKETBALL Female Group Riverwood A new group has commenced for females where they have freedom to learn and face up without male involvement. It is hoped to develop some in club and interclub games including this group.

BASKETBALL/SOCCER THURSDAY Our mission is to provide a fun, competitive, inclusive and safe environment for Basketball and Soccer enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Weekly training sessions are held, providing opportunities for skill development. Most of the participants learn skills in 3-4 weeks. Some participants need extra help and support. Our patience is the most important factor for all participants to enjoy every single Thursday night thru the activity and progressing toward their achievements.

SATURDAY BASKETBALL/SOCCER FAIRFIELD Both a female and mixed Basketball/Soccer program run at Fairfield Community Centre each Saturday. The groups welcome new players especially hope to see the growth of RSAC programs in the west.

Indoor Soccer’s mission is to provide a fun, competitive and inclusive safe environment for indoor soccer enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Weekly training sessions are held, providing opportunities for skill development and play a game between the 2 teams in second half of the session. Participants learn skills and develop tactics and strategy to defend. Some participants need extra help and support. Our patience is the most important factor and all participants enjoy every single Sunday morning thru the activity and progression and celebrate their achievements.

RSAC Tennis has continued to run 3 sessions each Saturday morning at Beverly Hills. Each group is graded to suit the ability of the participant and as skills improve, they may be promoted. Players have a lot of fun, as well as working on improved fitness and tennis skills. Tennis is a great game for social connection and we enjoy our end of year barbeques. We than Indeep Tennis for their continued support with quality coaches for the program.

Classes range from learn to swim – basic water safety and strokes to stroke correction where the swim style is corrected and developed to squad training where higher level techniques and distance swimming is developed. We have some who are starting out learning basic water safety and progressing to basic swim strokes. We aim for all of them to have some fun as they develop or improve their skills in the water.

SWIM GROUPS

Sessions run at Roseands Pool Friday evenings, Hurstville Aquatic Centre Wednesday evenings and Mondays and Fridays at Cabravale Leisure Centre where non swimming carers are also welcomed.

Cricket takes place fortnightly of a Sunday (but check the dates with the calendar) at the John Murray Indoor Cricket Centre at Bankstown. It is accessible for all and both male and female players participate. Away games against other teams happens on occasion, by invitation. Regular players receive their cricket kits which they can take home or stow at the ground.

Tenpin bowling is a very popular program for RSAC participants, with three weekly sessions running over two different venues: Revesby and Strathfield Superbowl. It is a fun program which can strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, coordination, balance and motor skills development. This program can also benefit mental health as it is a form of stress relief and enables participants to socially interact with their peers. There are lots of cheers, screams and high fives during play all enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Monday night Karate is coached by Max who brings a teaching philosophy centred on growth, inclusivity and wellbeing. Within weeks of commencing training participants can expect to see noticeable improvements in strength, flexibility, fitness ad overall wellbeing. Using simple, natural movements to build effective self-defence skills, development of balance, coordination, perseverance and focus. In an inclusive environment with no age, body type, gender, or ability limitations and tailoring training to meet individual needs. This method of teaching has proven to be both accessible and rewarding for our members.
